DevNet Overview
Over the coming year, the web technology landscape at Purdue will undergo a process of evolution. This evolution is based on the premise of a shared university architecture rooted in common web standards. In moving forward with the university architecture, a number of new technologies and development opportunities will arise. For Purdue to be successful in this time of change, an environment of sharing, collaboration and communication is essential.
The Developer Network (DevNet) serves as a connection between the Purdue web development community and Information Technology at Purdue (ITaP). This group is a vehicle to promote and strengthen development activities within the university, as well as ensure that the needs of the university development community are met through centrally provided services and initiatives. To accomplish this, DevNet will provide an arena to foster communication, collaboration and knowledge transfer.
The DevNet concept is based on four core web areas, which include design, development, architecture, and security. Combining these four elements into an open forum for exchange, DevNet will provide members an opportunity for knowledge transfer and open discussion. It also provides a mechanism for feedback on future directions and initiatives with ITaP. Through this focus group style discussion, DevNet will begin to shape the future of university web initiatives.
