How do I set up my machine at home running Mac OS X to do this?

To do this for Mac OS 10.2 or greater:

The most reliable VPN connection can be established by using the Cisco VPN client for Mac OS X.

  1. Download the appropriate Cisco VPN client installer for your version of MacOS to your desktop by double clicking on one of the following files:

    MacOS 10.4.x (Intel/PPC): vpnclient-darwin-4.9.01.0030-universal-k9.dmg
    MacOS 10.2-10.3.x: vpnclient-darwin-4.8.00.0490-GUI-k9.dmg

  2. Double click on the file you just downloaded which will mount a virtual drive called "CiscoVPNClient'
  3. Double click on the virtual drive which will open a folder containing "Cisco VPN Client.mpkg" and two other folders.
  4. Double click on "Cisco VPN Client.mpkg" and follow the installation instructions. Eject "CiscoVPNClient".
  5. Find "VPNClient.app" in your Applications folder and double click on it to start the VPN client.
  6. Click on connect; login using your career account login and password; then, minimize the VPN client until you are ready to disconnect and proceed to use your network connection as if you were on campus.
