Field Info: Visibility

The visibility field defines whether your home_address and home_phone information will be accessible for global internet access.

Students
For students this information is provided by the Office of the Registrar. Student information consists of name, school, campus, local address, and local telephone number. By default, student home phone and address information is visible for global internet access.

If you clear the visibility field in your electronic directory entry, only people at Purdue will be able to see your address and phone number. A Purdue person is someone whose hostname ends with:
purdue.edu (West Lafayette and Calumet)
purduenc.edu (North Central)
iupui.edu (IUPUI)
ipfw.indiana.edu (Ft Wayne)

To completely suppress your home address and telephone number visit the Office of the Registrar and file a Request to Restrict Directory Information form. (Requests to restrict your directory information require your signature.) Such changes to the electronic directory usually show up within one to two business days after the Registrar has made the change.

Faculty and Staff
Basic faculty and staff information found in the electronic directory is provided by the University Personnel Service and consists of name, title, department, campus building, office telephone number, home address, and home phone number. By default, for faculty and staff, only people at Purdue are able to see your home phone and address. A Purdue person is someone whose hostname ends with:
purdue.edu (West Lafayette and Calumet)
purduenc.edu (North Central)
iupui.edu (IUPUI)
ipfw.indiana.edu (Ft Wayne)

Faculty and staff may request that Human Resource Services completely suppress their home address and phone information. Contact your business office for further information. Changes made to the directory are the same as to the telephone book. Such changes will be reflected in the directory service database about one week after Personnel has made the change.

Faculty and staff may use the visibility field to make their home phone and address visible to global access . This is done by using the "visibility" field:
home_phone Makes the home_phone field available for non-local queries.
home_address Makes the home_address field available for non-local queries.
