Earlier this year, Purdue University purchased additional licenses in the Cognos reporting suite. These additional licenses enable Purdue to make Cognos our common reporting tool for enterprise data (Finance, Human Resource, Student, and Advancement). Cognos is already being used with the Banner operational data store (ODS).
The enterprise Cognos licenses will be allocated primarily to users requiring reporting access of enterprise data. A Cognos License Coordinator for each enterprise data set (Student, Finance, Human Resources, and Advancement) will be responsible for allocating licenses to named individuals as required in our license agreement. A process for units to purchase additional licenses for reporting against non-enterprise data will be put inot place later this year.
There are multiple tasks still to be done in order to use Cognos against enterprise data. Some of those tasks include educating the Cognos License Coordinators on the many Cognos license types and determining and documenting how Cognos Administration will be managed for enterprise data. An Oversight Group has been formed that is currently working on these tasks and others in order to make the transition to Cognos as smooth as possible.
