Who can use the 'smtp.purdue.edu' service?

The 'smtp.purdue.edu' service is generally available to anyone sending e-mail to an "@purdue.edu" e-mail address.  In addition,

• Virus scanning is performed on all messages sent to @purdue.edu e-mail addresses,
• Spam scanning is performed on all messages sent to @purdue.edu e-mail addresses who is owners have chosen to utilize the "Spam Scanning Service".

Either individuals using Purdue-affiliated computers or who have used SMTP authentication can use the 'smtp.purdue.edu' service as their outbound mail server.  As a result, e-mail sent to others (both inside and outside of Purdue) will be scanned for viruses.
