What happens if a virus is found in an e-mail message sent through the 'smtp.purdue.edu' servers?
All messages processed by the 'smtp.purdue.edu' servers, due to either
- being sent to an "@purdue.edu" e-mail address, or
- using them as your outbound mail server
will be scanned for viruses. If a virus is found in a message, the virus-infected message will not be delivered to the recipient. Instead, an error is communicated back to the connecting host attempting to send the e-mail, and the message is rejected. This behavior is similar to how a message is handled in the case of an unknown e-mail address or if the message is undeliverable.
