Outlook 2002 / 2003 / XP
NOTE: The screenshots show a configuration example for Veronica Smyth. You will need to substitute her alias of vsmyth and e-mail address of vsmyth@purdue.edu with your own.
- Make sure that you have Outlook 2003 SP2 (Service Pack 2) or later in order for the following configuration to work. To upgrade, use the Microsoft Windows Update mechanism and click on the "Office Family" menu.
- To update your existing settings, click here.
- Start Outlook.
- In the Tools menu, click E-mail Accounts.
- Select Add a new e-mail account and click Next.
- Select IMAP and click Next.
- In the E-mail Accounts window, the settings are:
- Your Name: Your own name as you want it to appear to others
- E-mail Address: Your @purdue.edu address
- Incoming mail server (IMAP): your_alias.mail.purdue.edu
- Outgoing mail server (SMTP): smtp.purdue.edu
Logon Information
- Username: your_alias
- Password: your_password
- Remember Password: Checked
In the example shown, you will need to substitute Veronica's alias of vsmyth with your own.
- Click the More Settings button.
- Under Outgoing Server tab:
- My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication: Checked
- Log on using: Checked
User Name: your_alias
Password: your_password
Remember password: Checked
- Under Advanced tab:
- Incoming server (IMAP): 993
- This server requires a secure connection (SSL): Checked
- Outgoing server (SMTP): 587
- This server requires a secure connection (SSL): Checked
- Click OK to close the Internet E-mail Settings Window.
- Click Next then Finish to close the E-mail Accounts Window.
- Restart Outlook.
