Outlook Express 6.x

NOTE: The screenshots show a configuration example for Veronica Smyth. You will need to substitute her alias of vsmyth and e-mail address of vsmyth@purdue.edu with your own.

1. To update your existing settings, click here.
   
2. Start Outlook Express.
3. In the Tools menu, click Accounts...
4. Click Add and select Mail...

   

    

5. Enter your name as you'd like it to appear to others then click Next.

   

    

6. Enter your @purdue.edu address then click Next.

   

    

7. In the E-Mail Server Names Window, use the following settings:
   My incoming mail server is aIMAPserver.
   Incoming mail (POP3, IMAP, or HTTP) server:your_alias.mail.purdue.edu
   Outgoing mail (SMTP) server: smtp.purdue.edu
   
   Then click Next.

   

    

8. In the Internet Mail Logon Window enter the following:
   Account Name: your_alias
   Password: your_password
   Remember password: Checked
   
   Then click Next.

   

    

9. Click Finished.
10. Select the account you just created and click Properties

    

     

11. Use the following settings in the Servers tab
    Incoming mail (IMAP): your_alias.mail.purdue.edu
    Outgoing mail (SMTP): smtp.purdue.edu
    Account Name: your_alias
    Password: your_password
    Remember Password: Checked
    My server requires authentication: Checked

    

     

12. Click on Settings... and enter the following:
    Account Name: your_alias
    Password: your_password
    Remember password: Checked
    

    Then click OK

    

     

13. Under Advanced tab:
    
    Outgoing server (SMTP):  465
    This server requires a secure connection (SSL): Checked
    

    Incoming server (IMAP): 993
    This server requires a secure connection (SSL): Checked

    

14. Click OK to close the Properties Window.
15. Click Close to close the Internet Accounts Window.
