Apple Mail (Mac OS X 10.3 - Panther)

NOTE: The screenshots show a configuration example for Veronica Smyth.   You will need to substitute her alias of vsmyth and e-mail address of vsmyth@purdue.edu with your own.

  1. Start Apple Mail
      If you are just changing an existing account, skip to step 3
  2. In the Welcome to Mail window enter the following information:
      Your Name:    Your own name as you want it to appear to others
      E-mail Address:    Your @purdue.edu address
      Incoming Mail Server: your_alias .mail.purdue.edu
      Mail Server Type:    Click on IMAP
      User Name: your_alias
      Password: your_password
      Outgoing Mail Server:    smtp.purdue.edu

    Click OK

  3. In the Mail menu, select Preferences

  4. Select the account you want to modify and click Edit

  5. Click Options... in the Account Infomation tab

  6. In the SMTP Server Options window, enter the following:
      Server port:    587
      Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL): checked
      Authentication:    select Password
      User Name: your_alias
      Password: your_password

    Click OK

  7. Click on the Advanced tab and change the following:
      Port:    993
      Use SSL: checked
      Authentication:    select Password

    Click OK

  8. Restart Apple Mail
