How do I get the full headers for an e-mail message?
Full headers include information such as the following:
Return-Path: Received: from purdue.edu (machinename.cc.purdue.edu
[xxx.xxx.xx.xxxx]) by herald.cc.purdue.edu (8.11.4/8.11.4/herald) with ESMTP id f93JjVw22448 for ; Wed, 3 Oct 2001 14:45:32 -0500 (EST)
Message-ID: <3BBB6ADC.4846B4C@purdue.edu>
Date: Wed, 03 Oct 2001 14:45:32 -0500
Depending on the settings, your e-mail software might not always display full headers. Listed below are instructions for some of the commonly-used e-mail clients.
- Webmail:
- Single click on the message that you wish to view
- Click on "Message Source".
- The headers are displayed at the top of the web page that is then presented containing the entire contents of the e-mail message.
- Microsoft Office Outlook 2003:
- Single click on the message that you wish to view.
- Right click on the message and select "Options".
- The headers are displayed at the bottom of the "Message Options" window. They are the "Internet Headers".
- Microsoft Outlook Express:
- Double-click on the message that you wish to view.
- Click on the "File" menu".
- Select "Properties"
- Click on the "Details" tab.
- Eudora:
- Double-click on the message you wish to view.
- Click the "Blah Blah Blah" icon (or "Show all Headers" button) in the toolbar above the open message. This is to the left of the "Subject" text box.
