Mozilla Thunderbird 1.5.x

NOTE: The screenshots show a configuration example for Veronica Smyth. You will need to substitute her alias of vsmyth and e-mail address of vsmyth@purdue.edu with your own.

  1. To update your existing settings, click here.
  2. Start Mozilla Thunderbird 1.5.x.
  3. First time users will select Email account and then click Next.

  4. Your Name: Your own name as you want it to appear to others
    Email Address: Your @purdue.edu address
    Click Next.

  5. Select IMAP
    • Incoming Server: your_alias.mail.purdue.edu
    • Outgoing Server: smtp.purdue.edu
    Click Next.

  6. Incoming User Name: your_alias
    Outgoing User Name: your_alias
    Click Next.

  7. Account name: Any account name you wish
    Click Next.

  8. Summary of your configuration. Click Finish.

  9. Under Edit menu, select Account Settings.
  10. Select the Server Settings Tab
    • Server Name:  your_alias.mail.purdue.edu
    • Port:  143
    • Username:  your_alias
    • Use Secure Connection:  Check TLS

  11. Select the Outgoing Server (SMTP) Tab
    • Select account, then click Edit

  12. Under SMTP Server window
    • Server Name: smtp.purdue.edu
    • Port: 587
    • Use name and password: Checked
    • User Name: your_alias
    • Use secure connection: check TLS
    • Click OK.
