My e-mail seems slow. What can I do to help speed up the response time?
- If you are currently using the Purdue University Webmail service, switch to a faster e-mail client. Click here for configuration information for some commonly-used e-mail clients.
- Set your e-mail client to automatically check for mail a minimum of every five minutes or turn off automatic checking entirely. The above change results in the Mailhub having more time to perform dynamic e-mail functions, such as delivering mail. (While your client is checking for e-mail, you cannot receive e-mail or work with your INBOX until the mail check has been completed.) Most e-mail packages contain a "Get Message" button which will allow you to quickly check for incoming messages when you are actively reading e-mail.
- When you are away from your machine (home, ResNet, ADSL, etc.) and not reading e-mail, close your e-mail client application. This really helps in those cases where you access e-mail from multiple machines.
