Windows Mail 6.0 (Vista)

NOTE: The screenshots show a configuration example for Veronica Smyth. You will need to substitute her alias of vsmyth and e-mail address of vsmyth@purdue.edu with your own.

 

  1. To update your existing settings, click here.
  2. Start Windows Mail
  3. In the Tools menu, click Accounts...

  4. Click Add...

    *

  5. Select E-mail Account, then click Next

  6. *

     

  7. Enter your name as you would like it to appear to others then click Next.

  8. *

     

  9. Enter your @purdue.edu address then click Next.

    *

     

  10. In the Set up e-mail servers Window, use the following settings:
      Incoming e-mail server type:   IMAP
      Incoming mail (POP3 or IMAP) server:   your_alias.mail.purdue.edu
      Outgoing e-mail server (SMTP) name:   smtp.purdue.edu
      Outgoing server requires authentication:   CHECKED

  12. In the Internet Mail Logon Window enter the following:
      Account Name: your_alias
    Then click Next.

  13. Click Finished.

  15. Select the account you just created and click Properties

    *

     

  16.  Under the Advanced tab:

    • Outgoing server (SMTP):  587
      This server requires a secure connection (SSL): CHECKED

      Incoming server (IMAP): 993
      This server requires a secure connection (SSL): CHECKED

  17. Click OK to close the Properties Window.
  18. Click Close to close the Internet Accounts Window.
