Apple Mail (Mac OS X 10.5 - Leopard)
NOTE: The screenshots show a configuration example for Veronica Smyth. You will need to substitute her alias of vsmyth and e-mail address of vsmyth@purdue.edu with your own.
- Start Apple Mail
The Setup Wizard should start automatically.
- In the Welcome to Mail window enter the following information:
Your Name: Your own name as you want it to appear to others
E-mail Address: Your @purdue.edu address
Password: your_password
Click Continue

- In the Incoming Mail Server window enter the following information:
Account Type: Select IMAP
Description: This is optional.
Incoming Mail Server: your_alias.mail.purdue.edu
User Name: your_alias
Password: your_password
Click Continue

- In the Outgoing Mail Server window enter the following information:
Description: smtp.purdue.edu
Outgoing Mail Server: smtp.purdue.edu
Use Authentication: checked
User Name: your_alias
Password: your_password
Click Continue

- You should see a message stating that Apple Mail is:
Checking connection to the mail server "smtp.purdue.edu"...
This may take a few minutes. After checking the connection, the Setup Wizard should display an account summary.
Click Create

Please note: If you see a message stating that,
"Trying to log into the SMTP server "smtp.purdue.edu" failed."
Go ahead and click Continue.
An additional Outgoing Mail Server window will be displayed.
* Make sure that this window shows:
Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL): checked
Authentication: Password
Click Continue

The account summary should be displayed.
Click Create
- Apple Mail will start up and begin to download your @purdue.edu e-mail.
