What are the mailbox limits?
500 MB Warning Level 650 MB Prohibit Send 750 MB Prohibit Send and Receive This means that once your mailbox reaches or exceeds 500 MB you will receive a warning that you have exceeded the mailbox limitation. When your mailbox reaches or exceeds 650 MB you will not be able to send any messages. When your mailbox reaches 750 MB you will not be able to send mail and any mail sent to you will bounce back to the sender.

Once a campus-wide Exchange account is created, when does it begin to receive e-mail?
A newly created campus-wide Exchange mailbox will *immediately* begin to receive mail. Any mail *from* an individual on the campus-wide Exchange server - sent *to* the above @purdue.edu email address - will now be delivered to the newly created Exchange mailbox. (A message sent from Exchange - to an individual on Exchange - does *not* leave the Exchange server. It will *not* be processed by the user's Purdue Electronic Directory entry.) New users to the campus-wide Exchange server, must be *immediately* informed the Exchange mailbox has been created, since the account will begin to receive mail.

Why does it seem that items disappear from my deleted items folder all at one time?
Due to the expansive Information Store size, the ITaP Exchange System is running a mailbox manager. The mailbox manager cleans out items which have been in the deleted items folder for more than 30 days. It is run once a week on all mailboxes. The deleted items (older than 30 days) are then moved to "deleted items retention". They remain in this "retention" area for an additional 30 days. Please note: This manager will only remove items which have been deleted for over 30 days. However, it is extremely important **not** to use the deleted items folder for archiving. Please select a different location in which to store historical data.

I use Outlook 2003, what should I expect?
Duplicate entries have been reported for Outlook 2003 users running in cached mode. Cached mode is the default installation mode for Outlook 2003. This is not an issue with Exchange 2003. For more information please refer to Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - 311849

How do I request an account for a faculty/staff member who has requested an ITaP Exchange account
Please review the following checklist prior to requesting the account creation:
  1. Do they know their password to access their Purdue Electronic Directory entry? This is the password that will be pushed to their ITaP Exchange server account. Plans exist to "acmaint" the ITaP Exchange server. The ITaP Exchange server is not currently an "acmaint" machine - password changes will not automatically flow from an acmaint account password change or from a password change to their directory entry.
  2. Is their directory "alias" a coordinated account? If they know their directory password, they may confirm their entry is coordinated from the Purdue Career Account web page at: http://labinfo.cc.purdue.edu/ Click on "My Account Web Page" and then click on "Check Account Status".
  3. Does the directory entry for the individual requesting the account have an @purdue.edu email address setup? When the ITaP Exchange account is created, the "email" field on their directory entry will become their ITaP Exchange "reply to" address.
  4. Please be sure that the individual requesting the account understands that: A message sent from Exchange - to an individual on Exchange - does not leave the Exchange server. It will not be processed by the user's Purdue Electronic Directory entry. Once their ITaP Exchange account is created, it will immediately begin to receive mail. They will need to access the account to read their Exchange mail or setup an Outlook server side rule to forward their mail to their directory entry.
  5. If they wish to receive all their email on their ITaP Exchange account, they must change the "service" field of their directory entry to: forward mailhub_alias@exchange.purdue.edu Please note: If they are changing the account from "store" to "forward", any messages stored on "mailhome.purdue.edu" will be deleted after seven days. If they wish to keep a copy of any old messages stored on "mailhome.purdue.edu", please have them telnet to "mailhome.purdue.edu" and forward the messages to their alias@purdue.edu email address. With their new setting in the "service" field of their directory entry, these messages will be redirected to their ITaP Exchange account. Once the above checklist is completed, as the support person for your area, please send mail to: exchange-admin@purdue.edu State you are requesting an account for a faculty/staff member. Please include the following information from their Purdue Electronic Directory entry: alias,qualified_name,department (The above information will assist us to identify the correct person from the over 100,000 entries in the electronic directory.) After the account is created (usually within two business days) a reply will be sent to you confirming the account creation has been completed.
