What is Intelligent Message Filtering (IMF)?
On the client side, Microsoft Office Outlook® 2003 and Microsoft Office Outlook Web Access for Exchange Server 2003 allow users to create a list of safe senders from whom they always want to accept e-mail messages and a list of blocked senders from whom they always want to reject e-mail messages.

What does Intelligent Message Filtering (IMF) do for me?
Scans messages at the SMTP Gateway and at the Mail Store level and based on the SCL rating it will deliver messages to a user Inbox or Junk E-mail Folder.

How do I turn “on” Junk Filtering for Safe or Blocked Sender Lists?
There are two ways to enable Junk Folder, must be running Outlook 2003, the Outlook Profile has to be running in "Cache Mode". The other option is within Outlook Web Access go to the "Options" section and scroll down to the section labeled Privacy and Junk E-mail Prevention and check the box for "Filter Junk E-mail". These options will allow for you to add someone to either the Safe or Blocked Senders Lists just by right-clicking on a message.

Do I have to run my Outlook 2003 in Cached Mode to use Safe\Blocked Sender Lists?
No you do not, as long as you enable Junk E-mail Prevention.

“The Junk E-mail Filter is not available for your Microsoft Exchange Server e-mail account because you are working online. To enable the Junk E-mail Filter for this account", what does this mean?
This does not prohibit you from adding someone to the Safe or Blocked Sender Lists, as long as you have turned on Junk E-mail Prevention on previously.

How do I add someone to my Safe Sender List?

Right-click on a message either in the Inbox or Junk E-mail folders and select "Add Sender to Safe Senders List" will add the sender to your Safe Sender List.

Right-click on a message either in the Inbox or Junk E-mail folders and select "Add Sender to Blocked Senders List" will add the sender to your Blocked Sender List.

How do I remove someone from my Safe Senders List?
Under the Junk E-mail Options go to the Safe Senders Tab select the Senders name and select remove. (Only available in Outlook 2003 not earlier versions of Outlook or through Outlook Web Access)

Under the Junk E-mail Options go to the Options Tab select the level of aggressiveness that you desire. (Only available in Outlook 2003 not earlier versions of Outlook)

When a message is delivered to the Inbox, Rules are checked first then Safe Sender List, then Blocked Senders List.
