How to connect a Windows Mobile 5.0 device to the ITaP Exchange environment

On the Windows Mobile 5 device, find the "ActiveSync" icon (typically a green circle with two arrows) and click enter or push in the thumb wheel.

  1. Click on "Menu" then click on "Configure Server".
  2. Fill in the Server Address by entering "exchange.purdue.edu" (without the quote marks).
  3. Check the option box next to the text "This server requires an encrypted (SSL) connection".
  4. Click "Next".
  5. Enter the Username which should be your Purdue Career Account alias.
  6. Enter the Password which should be your Purdue Career Account password.
  7. Be sure the Domain is specified as "onepurdue" (again, no quote marks and it doesn't need to be capitalized).
  8. Check the box next to "Save password" and click "Next".
  9. Be sure these four boxes are checked: "Contacts", "Calendar", "E-mail", and "Tasks".
  10. Click "Finish".
  11. After synchronization completes for the first time, click "Menu" within the ActiveSync application and then click on "Schedule".
  12. You can now select how often you'd like the device to check your Exchange mailbox for new email. Keep in mind that if you select "As items arrive", you will see drastically reduced battery life. For better battery life, you should select every 5 or 10 minutes during peak times and every 30 minutes for off-peak times.
  13. You will now be able to send/receive email by going to the "Messaging" icon and selecting "Outlook E-mail".

How to connect a Windows Mobile 6.0 device to the ITaP Exchange environment

  1. Open the "Messaging" program from the main user interface. There are multiple ways to get the Messaging program to open. Select the way you are most familiar with.
  2. You should see a screen appear that says "Select an Account" at the top of the window. Choose the "New E-mail Account" option.
  3. Enter your email address in the box that appears on the next screen. Your email account should be in the form of: yourusername@purdue.edu/br />
    Uncheck the box that says "Try to get e-mail settings automatically from the Internet
    Select "Next"
  4. You will now be asked to select the type of email service you want to connect to. From the drop-down menu, select "Exchange Server".
    Select "Next"
  5. The next screen explains that you will be setting up Outlook to talk to an Exchange Server. Select "Next".
  6. Fill in the Server Address box by entering "exchange.purdue.edu" (without the quote marks).
  7. Be sure the option box next to the text "This server requires an encrypted (SSL) connection" has been checked. If it has then select "Next" and continue. If it has not, check this box and then select "Next".
  8. Enter the Username which should be your Purdue Career Account alias.
  9. Enter the Password which should be your Purdue Career Account password.
  10. Be sure the Domain is specified as "onepurdue" (again, no quote marks and it doesn't need to be capitalized).
  11. Be sure the heck the box next to "Save password" is checked. Ignore the "Advanced" options button and click "Next".
  12. Be sure these four boxes are checked: "Contacts", "Calendar", "E-mail", and "Tasks".
  13. Click "Finish".
  14. After synchronization completes for the first time, click "Menu" within the ActiveSync application and then click on "Schedule".
