What is the ITI Terminal Server?
The ITI Terminal Server is a Microsoft Windows 2003 server running Terminal Services that allows users
to access work file and print services as well as specific applications using a Windows Remote Desktop
client. It is traditionally accessed by home and regional campus users.
Why would I want to access the ITI Terminal Server?
By accessing the ITI Terminal Server users are able to remotely access their work files as well as
remotely access applications without the need for installing the applications locally on their workstation.
What applications are available on the ITI Terminal Server?
The following applications are installed on the ITI Terminal Server:

How do I get access to the ITI Terminal Server?
All ONEPURDUE accounts do not have access to the ITI Terminal Server by default. To request access have
your immediate supervisor send an e-mail to the ITaP Customer Service Center at
itap@purdue.edu requesting your ONEPURDUE account be set up with
access to the ITI Terminal Server. Be sure to include your ONEPURUDE account name with the request.
How do I set up my machine to access the ITI Terminal Server?

Windows XP
The required Remote Desktop client is automatically included in the Windows XP operating system. Proceed
to the instructions below for connecting to the ITI Terminal Server.

To install the Remote Desktop client for a Windows non-XP workstation, go to the following URL:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/tools/rdclientdl.mspx
On this page click on msrdpcli.exe in the Download box on the right of the screen. You should then see
the Windows XP Remote Desktop Connection software page. Click on Download at the top of the screen.
You can either click Run to run it from the web site or click Save and then execute it once you save it
on your hard drive some where. Either way follow the instructions. Once the installation completes,
then proceed to the instructions below for connecting to the new ITI Terminal Server.
Macintosh
To install the Remote Desktop Connection software for the Mac, go to the following URL:
http://www.microsoft.com/mac/otherproducts/otherproducts.aspx?pid=remotedesktopclient
On this page click on Download Remote Desktop Connection Client for Mac today! at the bottom of the page
and follow the instructions. Once the installation completes, then proceed to the instructions below for
connecting to the new ITI Terminal Server.
How do I connect to the ITI Terminal Server?
To connect to the new terminal server:
- Click on Start\Run...
- Type mstsc.exe and click OK.
- In the Remote Desktop Connection dialog box, enter 1061wts02.itap.purdue.edu in the Computer field.
- Click on the Options >> button and then click on the Local Resources tab. Check the Disk drives box
in the Local devices area. This will map your local workstation drives when you log on.
- Click on Connect.
- You should then be connected to the ITI Terminal Server. Click OK on the LEGAL NOTICE to display
the login box.
- In the login box enter your ONEPURDUE account id and password. Make sure the Log on to: field is
set to ONEPURDUE and then click OK.
- If you've successfully logged in you should now see a remote session desktop with a tab across the
top that's labeled 1061wts02.itap.purdue.edu and 3 icons on the desktop labeled 1061WTS02 (My Computer),
My Network Places and Recycle Bin.
- Click on Start\Programs\Applications to start any of the available applications.
How do I properly log off the ITI Terminal Server?
To logoff the terminal server:
- Click on Start\Log Off...
- Click Logoff on the Log Off Windows dialog box.
NOTE: Do not click on the X on the 1061wts02.itap.purdue.edu tab at the top of the terminal session.
This will only disconnect your session and not log you off.
Is printing supported through the ITI Terminal Server?
Yes, printing is supported. Printers attached to your local workstation will be automatically mapped
into your ITI Terminal Server session if the Printers check box is checked on the Local Resources tab in
the Options of the Remote Desktop Connection client and the correct print driver is loaded on the ITI
Terminal Server. Many of the more common HP printer drivers are already loaded on the ITI Terminal Server.
If you are having problems printing through the ITI Terminal Server, it may be because the correct print
driver is unavailable. To request a new print driver be loaded on the ITI Terminal Server send an e-mail
to the ITaP Customer Service Center at itap@purdue.edu
stating that you want a new print driver loaded on the ITI Terminal Server. Be sure to include the printer
brand, model and driver type (PCL or Postscript).
Can I create a shortcut on my desktop for connecting to the ITI Terminal Server?
Yes, a desktop shortcut can be set up as follows:
- Right click on an empty part of your desktop and select New Shortcut
- In the location browse to or type C:\WINDOWS\system32\mstsc.exe, click Next
- Type a name for your shortcut like ITI Terminal Server and then click Finish.
When you start it, you will need to continue to click on Options >> and Local Resources to make sure the
Printers and Disk drives check boxes are checked before clicking on Connect.
Can I set up a keyboard mapping for the Secure ITaP Mainframe Hostexplorer application?
Yes, a personal keyboard mapping can be set up as follows:
- Sign on the ITI Terminal Server and start the Secure ITaP Mainframe application.
- Once it's started, click on Options\Keyboard Mapping... at the top of the screen and use the GUI to
set up your keyboard mapping as desired.
- Click on the Save... button on the right.
- Make sure DEFAULT is entered in the Saved KeyMap Files field and then click Save.
This will set the default keyboard mapping for your account only.
