Approved - RFC-9662 Prod & Non-Prod CI ESXi Host Upgrades (6p-6a 5/13 through 5/24)

05/13/2013 6:00 PM - 05/24/2013 6:00 AM

Beginning 5/13/1013 through 5/24/2013, the ESXi Hosts in the Prod & Non-Prod CI will be upgraded from version 5.01 to 5.1U1 during non-business hours (6:00pm-6:00am). This process is expected to take several nights to complete, but we have scheduled more than enough time in case we run into any issues.

What is changing?

ESXi Hosts in the Prod & Non-Prod CI will be upgraded from version 5.01 to 5.1U1

Why is it changing (what is the benefit)?

ESXi 5.1U1 supports new guest OSes and provides significant performance improvements as well as security updates and hotfixes.

How will people be affected?

Users will be unaware of the actual upgrade; however, ESXi hosts will need to be evacuated prior to each host upgrade. Services will continue to run uninterrupted during this time, but users may see a small performance hit to VMs during this process.

Who and how many will be affected by the change?

There should be VERY few people aware of or affected by this upgrade.

Who was notified of the change and how?
An email will be sent to the users of the CI environment notifying them (Basis & Banner Admins, DBAs, Web/App Admins, Windows, UNIX).

Approved - RFC-9692 FREH TAN Switch Move (RFC-380 in FP)

05/23/2013 10:00 AM - 05/23/2013 5:00 PM

We will be moving the FREH TAN switch between 10:00AM-5:00PM on Thursday, May 23rd. We are moving this switch because the rack space is needed for upcoming datacenter plans. This move is scheduled for Thursday because that is when the IDB is purging, and no backups will be running. There should not be any issues once the switch is back online, but the TAN connections for lppstobm01 will be offline during the move. We will most likely be shutting down lppstobm01 during this move. So basically, there should not be any "outages" or service interruptions during this move. Lppstobm01 is the only server that will be affected. There isn't anything else that will need to be done before or after the move. If you have any questions, please feel free to send me an email: Chris Andrus - chris@purdue.edu

Approved - RFC-9693 Fix UserPrincipalName for users in central.purdue.lcl (RFC-384 in FP)

05/23/2013 10:00 AM - 05/23/2013 12:00 PM

What is changing?

The UserPrincipalName (UPN) is being changed to username@purdue.lcl for those users who don't have all lowercase or are @central.purdue.lcl via a powershell script. The script will log each change it makes.

Why is it changing (what is the benefit)?

Currently, the Isilon is not allowing logins if the UPN from AD doesn't match from the LDAP server it also uses, and users aren't able to get to their career account space. This change resolves that

How will people be affected?

Users currently unable to use career account storage will be able to

Who and how many will be affected by the change?

Anyone who does not have the "standard" UPN. The number is unknown, but is likely a small percentage of overall accounts

Who was notified of the change and how?

the ADAdmins list will be notified. Other than that, this is the only communication.

Canceled - RFC-9686 FREH EMC Celerra 1109 Decommission (RFC-381 in FP)

05/23/2013 10:00 AM - 05/23/2013 10:00 AM

We will be decommissioning the FREH EMC Celerra 1109 around 10:00AM on Thursday, May 23rd. The is required because the datacenter floor space is needed for upcoming projects. The original date for this decommission was May 15th, but we've been able to push this back until the 23rd. All file shares using this array have been migrated, and backups are no longer running. The maintenance contract will be cancelled, and all associated network connections will be turned off. This decommission should not cause any outages or service interruptions. Nothing will need to be done before and after this decommission, and there should not be any effects to our customers. If you have any questions, please feel free to send me an email: Chris Andrus - chris@purdue.edu.

Approved - RFC-9691 MATH and FREH Centerra Decommission (RFC-383)

05/23/2013 2:00 PM - 05/23/2013 2:00 PM

We will be decommissioning the FREH and MATH Centerra arrays around 2:00PM on Thursday, May 23rd. These arrays will no longer be used, and all of the data has been migrated. This decommission should not cause any outages or service interruptions. Nothing will need to be done before and after this decommission, and there should not be any effects to our customers. If you have any questions, please feel free to send me an email: Chris Andrus - chris@purdue.edu.
