Protection

It is against University policy to give your password to someone else. Additionally, passwords must be protected from unintentional release. Never write it down in a place accessible to others.

Careful use of your password protects both you and the University’s systems. If someone needs access similar to yours, they must request it through their department’s coordinator. Their department coordinator will fill out the appropriate forms (182’s and 183’s), depending on requested access which are routed to the system owners for approval and implementation.

Top Secret requires you to change your password every 30 days. If you do not change your password, you will not be allowed to sign on. You should change your password if you suspect that someone else knows it.

When you sign on, Top Secret reports the last use of your ACcessor ID (ACID). Check this message carefully. If the message indicates the last use date was not yours, change your password immediately and report the use to your department’s security coordinator.

If the ACID and password are correct, the system will log you on and you may proceed with your work. If the ACID or password were miskeyed, you may see the individual facility’s signon screen appearing with an error message, and you are given another opportunity to enter the correct ACID and password.
