Steven L. Kay joins Purdue IT as Chief of Staff to the Vice President of Information Technology and Chief Information Officer (VPIT/CIO) Ian Hyatt, effective Monday, August 21, 2023.

This Chief of Staff is the principal aide and analyst to the VPIT/CIO. In this role, Kay will serve as the key liaison with diverse internal and external constituencies, and provide leadership and direction for information technology initiatives, special projects, time or critically sensitive decisions, internal communications and policy development. He will partner with the VPIT/CIO and the IT senior leadership team and work with the university community to implement IT initiatives and enterprise-wide IT strategy by keeping key projects on track, monitoring and evaluating progress, offering trusted counsel and feedback, and aligning and coordinating resources.

“This is a vital role to clearly define and effectively implement Purdue IT organizational strategy,” Hyatt said. “With his background, Steve is well suited to ensure our various groups and stakeholders are aligned and working in concert to achieve shared goals and objectives.”

Kay earned his B.A. in Philosophy from Boston University, B.A. in History from Rhode Island College, and completed the Leadership and Strategic Impact and Advanced Management Program tracks through the Tuck Executive Education Program at Dartmouth College. He brings to the role more than 20 years of leadership experience including Vice President of IGT North American Support Services, Senior Director of IGT B2B Global Contact Centers and Director for the GTECH National Response Center.  

Previous Chief of Staff Corey Seliger will remain part of the senior leadership team, refocusing his efforts on strategic initiatives and enterprise risk management for Purdue University. Corey will report directly to Assistant Vice President of Distributed Campuses and Deputy CIO Timothy Winders.
