New phone? Lost phone? Your step-by-step guide to reconnecting with Purdue services

Whether you just purchased a new phone or have lost your phone, setting up two-factor authentication for Purdue Login with Duo, or the Microsoft Authenticator App for email and Microsoft products for is vital to connecting to many of the tools and services needed at Purdue. 

Follow the guides below to get reconnected:  

Resetting your Purdue career account password 

If you have lost your phone, or you think it may have been stolen, first reset your Purdue password: 

  1. Go to https://boilerbot.purdue.edu/ and select “Password reset” 
  2. Follow the instructions provided by BoilerBot. 

Using Duo to login when you cannot access your phone 

If you know your Purdue career account username and password, you can generate a bypass code by going to BoilerBot and selecting “Duo.” This option requires that you know your: 

  • Purdue ID 
  • Purdue username 
  • Date of birth 
  1. Once you have a bypass code, go to the login-protected application you are trying to access (such as purdue.brightspace.com or one.purdue.edu) 
  2. Login in using your Purdue ID and password.  
  3. When the “Check for a Duo Push” screen appears, select “Other Options” at the bottom of the screen. 
  4. On the “Other options to log in” screen, select “Bypass code – Enter a code from your IT help desk” and enter the bypass code generated by BoilerBot. Then click verify.  
  5. You should now be able to access the application. 

Setting up a new phone for Duo Login 

For setting up a new phone, first download the Duo Mobile Apple (from the Apple Store or Google Play Store) on your new device. The steps below to set up Duo work best when used from a computer and not from your phone. 

If you still have access to your old phone with Duo Mobile: 
  1. Log into any Purdue application that uses two-factor login (such as purdue.brightspace.com or one.purdue.edu) and then, instead of authenticating with your phone, click on “Other Options” when you see the “Check for a Duo Push” screen. 
  2. Select “Manage Devices” 
  3. Select “Duo Push” and authenticate using the app on your old phone. 
  4. Click the “Add a Device” button and follow the prompts to verify your new phone by scanning the Due QR code. 

If you do not have access to your old phone with Duo Mobile: 

If you know your Purdue career account username and password, you can generate a bypass code by going to BoilerBot and selecting “Duo.” This option requires that you know your: 

  • Purdue ID 
  • Purdue username 
  • Date of birth 
  1. Once you have a bypass code, go to a login-protected application (such as purdue.brightspace.com or one.purdue.edu) and log in.  
  2. When the “Check for a Duo Push” screen appears, select “Other Options” at the bottom of the screen. 
  3. Select “Manage Devices” 
  4. Select “Bypass Code” and enter the code generated by BoilerBot. 
  5. Click the “Add a Device” button and follow the prompts to verify your new phone verify your new phone by scanning the Due QR code. 

Adding Microsoft Authenticator to your smartphone

If you need to re-establish the Microsoft Authenticator App on your new phone (to access Purdue email and other Microsoft tools), follow these steps:  

  1. Go to https://boilerbot.purdue.edu 
  2. Select “Microsoft MFA Reset”  
  3. Select “Yes” this will allow you to set up the app on a new device.  
  4. Select the appropriate campus 
  5. Enter your Purdue ID, Purdue Username, and Date of Birth 
  6. After confirming your information, BoilerBot will provide instructions to go to office.outlook.com to sign in with our Purdue username and password.  
  7. Microsoft will then ask you to set up the Authenticator App, which you can download on your phone (Apple Store, Google Play Store). Follow the prompts from Microsoft to complete verification.
