New view for the outage notification system

Purdue campus faculty and staff can view unscheduled outages and scheduled changes affecting central IT services with the outage notification system provided by ITaP. This system allows users to sign up to be notified of outages or disruptions in services that are important to them.

"We are very excited to provide a combined view of business-critical dates, scheduled changes and unscheduled outages," said Vicki Farnsworth, project director with ITaP's Rosen Center for Advanced Computing and former director of ITaP service management. "The new system is about the give and take of information.”

The new outage notification system includes:

  • A search function to search the list of services.
  • Lists of services by category instead of system names, which allows customers to find services critical to them through a familiar categorization scheme.
  • An integrated systems-availability calendar providing a combined view of all scheduled changes, business-critical dates and unscheduled outage. This aims to prevent accidental scheduling conflicts and shows whether an unscheduled outage conflicts with a business-critical service. Six calendar views are available: daily details, monthly or yearly lists and daily, weekly or monthly calendar views. Change the date and choose to view unscheduled outages, scheduled changes, business-critical dates or all three.

Farnsworth encourages all faculty and staff to log in to the new outage notification system and sign up for any service notifications. Sign up for the new outage notification system by following the link called "Service Notification Sign Up" from the ITaP change management Web page.
