Protocol - A protocol is simply an agreed-upon way for two computers or computer programs to communicate. For example, Internet mail is sent using the SMTP protocol ("Simple Mail Transfer Protocol"). The two protocols of interest for this project are SMB and NFS.

SAMBA - SAMBA is a collection of free software developed to provide Microsoft file system services from UNIX file servers. More information about the on-going SAMBA project may be found at the SAMBA home page.

SMB - SMB (Server Message Block) is Microsoft's file and print sharing protocol. SMB is included with Windows 95, 98, NT, 2000, and XP.

NIC - NIC (Network Interface Card) is an expansion card or an onboard device that allows for the physical connection to the network.

NFS - NFS (Network File System) is an Internet standard protocol for file sharing, originally developed by Sun Microsystems.

Windows - For the purposes of this documentation, any reference to "Windows" applies to Microsoft Windows 95 and Windows 98.
