Active Directory services are available to Purdue University departments, upon request. Active Directory is Microsoft’s trademarked directory service, an integral part of the Windows Server architecture. Like other directory services, Active Directory is a centralized and standardized system that automates network management of user data, security, and distributed resources, and enables interoperation with other directories.
Provide any or all of the following services; application selection and installation, application development, application maintenance and modification, system integration, application testing, data extraction, or data modeling.
This also includes the use of Project Management and Portfolio Management as needed.
ITaP offers hosting services for departmental applications in a secure, controlled environment. Support includes server procurement and installation, application installation, storage solutions, security patching, maintenance, monitoring, and backup and recovery services. Both Windows and Linux environments are available. Depending on the needs of your application, web and database support may also be purchased.
Consulting, design, and installation services, for Purdue departments interested in audio/visual facilities, and Classroom Technology. This service covers existing spaces and consulting for spaces in new construction.
IAMO provides authentication and authorization services, maintains the Purdue career account service, provides secure data distribution, and maintains Purdue Guest account services.
Provide consulting services to help document business processes, and/or the redesign of current processes either within or across departmental groups.
Classroom services provide instructors and students with a variety of technologies that enhance the teaching and learning experience in and out of the classroom. The service line is comprised of the following four services:
The
Technology In the Classroom (TIC) service provides instructors with high-tech lecture and presentation facilities for the classes they teach.
The
eInstruction Service provides interactive classroom polling, attendance recording and quiz administration via hand-held response pads. It uses eInstruction’s CPS system as its base technology.
The
BoilerCast service uses podcasting technology to deliver digital audio recordings of class lectures to portable audio playback devices such as iPods. It uses Apple, Inc.’s iTunes University as its base technology.
The Online Score Uploading Service provides instructors with processing of exams administered using “bubble sheet” exam answer forms. Exam scores are automatically loaded into online course environments within the Blackboard Vista system.
ITaP offers educational opportunities to assist faculty and staff to more effectively use common desktop software and Purdue business applications in their work.
Central service desk for requesting IT related assistance or information.
ITaP provides data center space, network, redundant power and cooling to co-location customers for Mission Critical and non-critical systems.
ITaP Infrastructure provides core data network services to the Purdue University campus. The data network staff serves as the primary point of contact for the campus network. This team is responsible for PIC (Purdue Information Connection) requests, activations, service changes, and repairs. Includes services for Virtual Private Network (VPN), Wired, and Wireless access.
ITaP Infrastructure offers both Oracle and SQL Server database administration support to Purdue University departments upon request. These services include the installation and maintenance of database management system software, backup and recovery measures to safeguard data and collaboration with departments in maintaining databases where database administration (DBA) involvement is necessary.
Benefits include:

• Monitoring and maintaining performance of the database
• Provisioning and monitoring security measures within the database environment
• Controlled Production implementations through the ITaP Chanage Management Process
• Creating or re-creating new database instances where necessary

DCS provides desktop computing solutions to participating academic and administrative units on the West Lafayette campus. The staff provides purchasing, installation, and troubleshooting services for both Windows and Macintosh platforms, Blackberry PDAs, and software.

TLT’s Instructional Support Services provides IT instructional assistance and information to Purdue faculty, staff, students and guests. This service line is comprised of the following service areas:
Consulting ServicesInstructional design and digital media development staff are available for one-on-one consultation with instructors who need assistance building instructional resources. Consultation topics include: eCourses, Web Tools, Instructional Design, Multimedia Design and Portable Devices. This service has Operational Level Agreements in place to define performance; it is owned by TLT’s Instructional Development Center department and is managed by the Director of the Instructional Development Center.
Training ServicesTLT offers training in multimedia technologies for faculty and staff. Courses are available in multiple formats, from informational seminars to hands-on multimedia workshops; topics include: eCourses, Web Design, Graphics, Digital Video and Special Interest topics. This service does not use Operational or Service Level Agreements to define performance; it is owned by TLT’s Instructional Development Center department and is managed by the Director of the Instructional Development Center.
Digital Content Development GrantsThe goal of the Instructional Development Center Grants program is to select and help implement projects that increase instructional effectiveness through the use of digital and online technology. The TLT department seeks to cultivate instructional excellence through experimentation with new ideas, teaching methods, and technologies. Projects should be innovative and technologically sophisticated, with strong prospects for effective implementation and continued use. Project proposals may address the strengths and limitations of applying technology in collaborative, interdisciplinary environments. In general, projects should strive to enhance the quality of instruction at Purdue.
ITaP offers file storage for University departments. This service can be used for managing storage interfaces and creating a common location to share files with individuals and teams.

The Instructional Laboratory Services line provides students and instructors at the West Lafayette campus with instructional facilities designed to promote teaching and learning through the use of desktop computer systems. This service line is comprised of the following service areas:
Teaching laboratories are available to instructors, by
reservation, for classes they teach that require a high-tech hands-on learning environment. Non-standard software can be made available for the class
upon request.
The
Open Laboratories service provides students with computer workstation facilities where they can work on class assignments or general computing activities.
Residence hall laboratories are similar to open laboratories except they are located in residence halls and are available to the residents 24 hours a day.
The
Digital Learning Collaboratory (DLC) provides leading-edge computer technology to instructors and students that can be used for a variety of high-end multimedia development activities. The site houses high-end workstations that are available by reservation; as well as digital cameras, camcorders, and laptop computers available for checkout.
The
Adaptive Learning Programs (ALPS) lab provides instruction and support in the use of adaptive computer technology for students with special needs. The site houses a variety of adaptive hardware and software.
Printing is available from all of the ITaP computing labs, on the Purdue network and from off campus. Printers can also be located within departments on a fee basis.
ISO is a vendor showcase where faculty, staff, and students can visit and experiment with computer hardware before purchasing on-line with Purdue’s discounts.
Exchange: The service includes email and Outlook calendaring services
Mailhub: ITaP provides an “@purdue.edu” email address to Purdue University faculty, staff and students. All incoming students are given an “@purdue.edu” email account ?before they arrive on campus. Most new staff are also given an account when they begin employment
TLT's Online Instructional Services provides a suite of self-serve online services designed to enhance the teaching and learning experience at Purdue University. This service line is comprised of the following service areas:
Blackboard Vista provides global web-based management and delivery of course content for all campuses in the Purdue system. This service has been in operation since 1998.
The
Software Remote Service provides Purdue users with offsite access to many of the standard applications available in the onsite instructional laboratories. This service has been in operation since 1999 and currently uses Windows Terminal Services and Citrix Metaframe as its base technologies.
The
Course Email List Service provides Purdue courses with automatically generated email lists populated with course roster e-mail addresses to aid course-centric communication. Message delivery to lists is handled via the
campus messaging system. The
Instructional Collaboration Service provides multimedia video-conferencing and application sharing to Purdue users. This service has been in operation since 2004 and currently uses Adobe Acrobat Connect Professional (formerly Breeze) as its base technology.
The
Web-based Plagiarism Detection service enables instructors to identify suspected acts of plagiarism by submitting student papers to an online service for evaluation using a proprietary system. This service has been in operation since 2005 and currently uses TurnItIn.com as its base technology.
The
Streaming Media Service is designed to enable instructors to provide students with course content via media streams. This service has been in operation since 2006 and currently uses Windows Streaming Media as its base technology.
The implementation of the processes for the selection, prioritization and monitoring of projects within a department.
ITaP provides Windows print services to compatible windows clients.
This service includes centralized management of print queues allowing departmental technical staff to direct all print jobs to their area’s printers. This service also allows end-users to direct their own individual print jobs if needed.
Project definition, scheduling and management for large complex efforts involving multiple departments using a standard methodology. May also assist in providing advice and quality assurance for best practices of project management as they relate to PMBOK.
Remedy is the main ITaP incident and request logging service. It is also used by several other departments across the West Lafayette campus as well as at the PNC campus. It provides support groups and business units with the means to log and record customer contacts (issues and requests) as tickets. These tickets can then be used to pass information between the relevant groups in order that a satisfactory resolution can be found.
There is a full client version and it is also available via a web interface.
In addition to being available while on campus both of these are also available via ITaP's virtual private network (VPN) when not on campus or working from home.
Enabling researcher to visualize and better understand their data
ResNet is the data network in on-campus student residences. ResNet also provides access to the campus data network from off-campus, private residences of students, faculty, and staff via dial up modems.
News and video program material can be distributed by way of ITaP’s Satellite transmission (KU-Band) facility. This Service can also receive video programming distributed by satellite.
Provide general security consulting on applications/hardware/software/network security, and security tools and techniques. Includes Firewall Maintanance, risk assessment, security software support, and Vulnerability detection / prevention.
Provide Incident triage, notification, analysis and post mortems related to IT Incidents. In addition, provide forensics and malware analysis as necessary during normal Incident Response process.
ITaP offers standard SharePoint site hosting for University departments upon request. The following features are included:
- Document Management: Organization and categorization of documents
- Document Indexing and Search: Search features and hourly indexing of SharePoint content
- Security-trimmed search results: Content and features inaccessible to the user is not seen by them
- Retention and auditing policies: Tools to automate content auditing and retention to include movement and deletion of data based on time-frame
- Navigation Controls: Navigation controls included with the standard SharePoint installation
- Outbound Email Enabled Content and Alerts: SharePoint generated mail and alerts via smtp.purdue.edu
- Wikis: Wiki hosting on SharePoint
- Blogs: Blog hosting on SharePoint
- RSS Feeds: Content syndication via RSS. Client security may affect use.
- Direct Integration with Office 2003/2007 Clients: Access to SharePoint content/status via Outlook, Word, etc…

- Manages the content of the SharePoint site collection
- Manages the permissions, groups and access to the SharePoint site collection and sub sites.
- Manages the creation of sub sites under their Site Collection.
- Is responsible for the notification to site users in regards to the placement of restricted and/or sensitive data on the SharePoint site collection in accordance with HIPAA, FERPA and Purdue Security and Regulatory policies. Which can be found at http://www.purdue.edu/securepurdue/bestPractices/
- Will handle first level support of users of their site collection. Issues with core SharePoint functionality or infrastructure will be escalated to ITaP SharePoint administration.
- Is responsible for reviewing and approving Service Level Agreements for the site hosting.
- Is responsible for reviewing space usage by their site collection.
- Notifies ITaP of changes of the primary and backup SharePoint Site Collection Administrator.
- Perform content item restores from the Site Collection recycle bin as requested by Site Collection user base.

Telecommunication Services provides support for office telephones, voice mail, cellular phones, and teleconferencing.
Full range of video and multimedia production services from concept to finished promotional, instructional and commercial productions on DVD, videotape, or the web. Services include digital editing services, 3D animation and compositing, classroom and conference event recording, remote location video recording, and studio production in distance learning and broadcast television studios.
ITaP administers and operates a video network for Purdue University, and works closely with Purdue Faculty and Staff to distribute programming via that network.

ITaP offers Serna Collage as a resource to university departments for managing web content. Using the CMS system allows content owners to directly author and publish information online while maintaining design consistency and branding.
ITaP provides end-to-end Web design and development services, on a cost recovery basis, to the Purdue University community. Services include: Web site design and/or development, Web application development, and multimedia development.
ITaP provides web application hosting within various environments as well as the installation and maintenance of web application servers.
