Active Directory

Service Owner:
Mike Rubesch
Service Description:
Active Directory services are available to Purdue University departments, upon request. Active Directory is Microsoft’s trademarked directory service, an integral part of the Windows Server architecture. Like other directory services, Active Directory is a centralized and standardized system that automates network management of user data, security, and distributed resources, and enables interoperation with other directories.
Limitations:
Departments must have an official Purdue University affiliation via HR or Registrar to be automatically populated into Active Directory. Interested departments must assign a Departmental Proxy that has been authorized by the departments Dean or Department Head. Departments will be integrated into the Active Directory forest as Organizational Units (OU) and will be granted administrative rights to that OU. ITaP Infrastructure is responsible for and retains administrative rights to the Active Directory Domain Controllers and all services that reside on them.
