The Operator Services offers an on campus relay service for individuals with a TDD (Telecommunication Device for the Deaf) or TTY (Text Telephone) who need to contact a Purdue office, staff member or residence hall student. The service is available from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm Monday - Friday by dialing 496-1343. A Purdue operator will answer on an Ultratec Superprint Text Telephone and relay the conversation between the caller and the specified campus destination.
The state of Indiana also operates Relay Indiana. Both TTY/TDD and voice users may initiate calls through Relay Indiana by dialing 1-800-743-3333. There are no restrictions on the length or number of calls placed through the center, and users of the center are not billed for calls placed in their local service area. Charges for long distance calls are billed at a special discounted rate. Purdue users of Relay Indiana should be aware that the service cannot use an Authorization Code for placing calls. Any official Purdue business long distance calls placed through Relay Indiana would need to be billed to a Purdue calling card.
