Abstract:

Mobile technology is… being mobile. In the next 12-18 months mobile technology will reinvent itself almost entirely.  We are about to see phones with 4 inch screens (screens from GPS units), 7 inch full tablet PC’s for $400 – running Linux. Just in the nick of time – K-12 has finally gotten over the hump and 1:1 is only a question of when, not if. The challenge, as ever, is integration – how do we integrate all these mobile technologies into schools’ existing curriculum and still leverage the affordances of the technology to produce new opportunities for teaching and learning. In our presentation, we will describe our efforts at developing the Integrated Instruction Framework, a coherent set of strategies that help teachers, curriculum coordinators, and IT staff to integrate and align mobile technology with the curriculum and standards already in place.
