Helix Streaming Media Server

  1. Access your account
  2. Map a network drive as follows:

    \\river.ics.purdue.edu\username

where "ics\username" is your career account login id.

  3. Drop in your media files
  4. Drop your content into the "username" folder, where "username" is your career account login id, located on the server.

  5. Link to your content on the streaming server
  6. Use the following URL, substituting your username and filename.

    http://river.ics.purdue.edu/ramgen/username/filename.ext

    or

    rtsp://river.ics.purdue.edu/username/filename.ext

    Example:
    http://river.ics.purdue.edu/ramgen/jdoe/myfile.wmv

Note: If you are providing the link from within a WebCT Vista course, the Real Time Streaming Protocol ("rtsp://") is recommended.

“ramgen” automatically generates a metafile. The Ramgen feature on the server automatically creates a separate .ram file. Your Web page URL points to your media file on the server and includes a /ramgen/ parameter. The ramgen parameter launches the RealPlayer without the use of a separate .ram file.
