Instructional Innovation Program offers faculty grants to explore teaching and learning ideas

Purdue faculty who want to try new ways of teaching can apply to a campuswide grant program designed to invest in instruction, instructional equipment and technology that promotes innovations such as active or adaptive learning, creative pedagogies, virtual labs and other approaches.

The Instructional Innovation Program is seeking proposals for projects that can begin during the 2018-2019 academic year. The grants are sponsored by the offices of the Provost and the Vice President for Information Technology.

Proposals can span a broad spectrum of innovative teaching and learning projects, and might include, but are not limited to, goals such as:

  • Focusing on the exploration of truly new ideas and concepts.
  • Demonstrating the potential for using technology or equipment to enhance the learning experience.
  • Addressing the creative assessment and implementation of instructional equipment, technologies or pedagogies currently emerging in the marketplace.
  • Involving active learning in new learning spaces on campus or in a digital environment.
  • Promoting digital and online experiential learning, including virtual labs.
  • Leading widespread adoption of an existing proven technology.

The Program will have a budget of $500,000 for FY 2018-19 with grant awards in amounts up to $100,000 each. Grants fund equipment and related technology costs to advance the goals outlined in the grant proposal. Funding for needed training is an appropriate expense.

Project costs also can include summer salary support for academic-year faculty and staff, graduate students and undergraduates. Other faculty and staff salaries are not covered by the grants.

Funding will not support equipment replacement, online course redesign or remodeling of space.

The deadline to apply is Nov. 1, 2018.
