Open house events to promote Global Accessibility Awareness Day, campus resources

A series of open house events are scheduled to celebrate Global Accessibility Awareness Day on campus with each event designed to promote awareness of Purdue resources for faculty, staff and students.

Global Accessibility Awareness Day – scheduled for Thursday, May 16 – is an annual event to promote digital (web, software, mobile) access and inclusion for people with disabilities.

Events scheduled at Purdue for the day are:

9 to 11 a.m.: Disability Resource Center open house, Young Hall, Room 830
Learn how the Disability Resource Center works with students and faculty to ensure equal access to classes, programs and activities at Purdue – and how faculty and staff are vital partners in the mission to accommodate students.

11 a.m. to 1 p.m.: Accessibility information booth, Purdue Farmer's Market
Stop by and talk with Purdue Innovative Learning’s accessible technology experts, who can help faculty and staff learn how to create accessible documents and websites, and who can answer questions about best practices for ensuring that everyone has access to the information they need.

1 to 2 p.m.: Assistive Technology Center open house, Stewart Center, Room 111
The Assistive Technology Center works with students, staff and faculty to access the right technology – including screen readers, Braille translators, alternative keyboards, and more – to ensure accessibility on campus. Learn about training and other resources available to help promote digital accessibility for all.
