Microsoft Teams to replace Skype for Business on Jan. 30 for Purdue West Lafayette users

On Jan. 30 computers and devices managed by local IT groups will see Skype for Business decommissioned. It may still appear on the machine, but users will be unable to use the software. Those who use Skype for Business should make a plan with their local IT group to switch to Teams.

Users with CSDS-supported devices, such as laptops and desktop computers, had Skype for Business removed on Jan. 16 as Microsoft Teams is now the supported business chat software.

In 2020, Microsoft announced its plan to retire Skype for Business in favor of Teams. Microsoft will stop supporting the software in July 2021. Contact the ITaP Customer Service Center or your local IT group to switch chat functions from Skype for Business to Teams at (765) 494-4000 or itap@purdue.edu.
