Purdue IT is completing the long-running project to retire the phone switch installed more than 25 years ago. Several changes and updates are being made to the Purdue West Lafayette telephone systems.

1. The conversion of remaining analog phone lines:
These lines comprise such items as legacy fax services, Blue Light Emergency Telephones (ETS), elevator phones, duress buttons, and alarm systems. As part of the conversion, these legacy analog telephone lines are being migrated onto new equipment. This conversion should be transparent, and no changes are needed on the part of the end user.

Purdue IT staff recommend users who rely upon analog telephone service for their alarms and duress buttons schedule a test with the appropriate monitoring authorities upon completion of the upgrade to ensure that all systems are working as expected. Purdue IT and Physical Facilities staff are partnering to ensure that all elevators and ETS phones are functioning properly. This portion of the work is scheduled to begin 8/2/2023 and continue through the month of August.

2. Moving to utilize 10-digit dialing for all outgoing calls:
This dialing method requires users to dial the area code of the person being called as part of the dialing process. For example, 765-555-5555. All digits will be required by the end of August 2023.

3. International calling:
