Blackboard upgrade includes new icons, drag-and-drop feature

Blackboard Learn, Purdue’s course management system, will receive an upgrade on May 13 that will add a few new features, including drag-and-drop uploading, and slightly change the look and feel of Blackboard.

The most noticeable change for users will be to the icons used to identify various types of files, as well as the location of the cancel and submit buttons.

Other changes include:

  • A new drag-and-drop feature for uploading content, assignments and web links.
  • The ability to upload multiple files at a time.
  • A receipt feature that will provide students with a confirmation code when they upload assignments. Faculty will be able to access receipt information to confirm date and time an assignment was submitted.
  • An update to Blackboard’s “Needs Grading” folder, allowing instructors to hide assignment or assessment attempts that do not contribute to a student’s grade from view.

ITaP’s Teaching and Learning Technologies team hosted a webinar about the changes on May 4, and a recording of the webinar will be available at a later date on Blackboard to help answer questions users might have.
