Boiler Apps interns create apps used in Purdue classrooms

Jay Lee

Jay Lee

graduate student, Mechanical Engineering

How did you hear about his internship?
I am currently involved in a joint project for the biomedical engineering and mechanical engineering departments. One of the professors there suggested that I do this internship because the project involves some of the IOS programming that Boiler Apps is currently working on right now.

What do you do for Boiler Apps?
I am developing an IOS app for the entomology department based on an Apple App that is for forensic science.

How has the project you are working on enhanced your skills and confidence in your work?
I have definitely learned a lot about coding itself, and we have many great resources in the folks here who know things who have been developing for many years. I definitely feel more confident in my coding, app development, and also my ability to make improvements to my own projects.

Would you recommend this internship to others?
I would definitely recommend this internship with Boiler Apps to other students who are willing to learn more about programming and computer skills in general. This has helped me so much in my research, my potential future jobs, meeting new people, and just having some summer fun.

So how did you hear about this internship?
I am a summer stay scholar, so I was able to use that opportunity to work here.

What are you doing for BoilerApps?
I am working on two projects. The first one is a farmer crop project. They are able to budget their income and other farm related activities. The second one is picture-editing software.

What has been your favorite project?
The crop budget project has been my favorite so far because I have been working with it since the beginning so I have been more involved.

What has been the best part about the Boiler Apps internship?
The best part about the internship is that many people, not just Purdue associated people, use the projects you work on. For example, the farm workers will work with this app. Also you get more experience that helps build your resume.

Have you enhanced any skills during this internship opportunity?
I have learned some new coding languages and some project management systems. Also, my mentor, Joe, is great. He helps me out with everything.

Would you recommend this internship to others?
Definitely. The pay is good and you learn so much from this. This is really great for your resume and it will help you get a different internship next time.
