Career Account

Faculty, staff, and students receive a base Purdue Career Account that allows access to specific services at Purdue. This includes full and part-time faculty and staff, as well as regional campus faculty and staff. Some additional services may be available to you, and are based on your affiliation with Purdue.

About Career Accounts

Whether they're here four years or many more, all faculty, staff and students are provided with 5 gigabytes of storage in their Purdue Career Account as long as they are affiliated with Purdue. By storing and accessing documents through the Career Account home directory, the need to carry or print extra documents is eliminated. The home directory is always available, anytime, anywhere. A personal web page (designated as the "www" folder) can be created in the home directory by following instructions found on the self-help knowledge base.

Anyone needing login or password assistance may visit the Service Desk. A Purdue photo ID is needed for identification purposes.

Home Directory Access

From an Purdue IT lab:

From a Windows PC, go to Windows Explorer and look for drive H:
From an Apple Mac, your Career Account home directory is mounted as your home directory.

From your personal desktop or laptop:

From your personal desktop or laptop, you can can access your home directory by setting up a Virtual Private Network (VPN) connection. Once connected to the campus network, you can map a network drive to access it, or use any Secure File Transfer Protocol (SFTP) program to access your files. Note: You only need to establish a VPN connection while off campus (at home, while traveling, from a coffee shop, etc.). Connecting to the VPN while on campus is unnecessary.

Using FTP

To use FTP, you will need a secure file transfer program.
SecureFX is used in Purdue IT PC labs and is available for free download at http://www.purdue.edu/securePurdue/download/. For more information on SecureFX please visit https://service.purdue.edu/TDClient/32/Purdue/KB/ArticleDet?ID=36.
Fetch is used in the Purdue IT Mac labs and is available for free download at http://fetchsoftworks.com/fetch/free. Fetch is free to all Purdue faculty, students and staff by filling out the education license request form.

Use mace.itap.purdue.edu for the server name and log in with your Purdue Career Account login and password. Use port 22 if your FTP program requires you to enter port information.
Any secure file transfer client can be used. Many are available for free by downloading from the internet. For more information see: Accessing your account using File Transfer Protocol

UNIX Access

UNIX can also be used to access your home directory. Your Career Account login and password can be used to log in to:
- guru.itap.purdue.edu (Faculty)
- maven.itap.purdue.edu (Students)

UNIX access requires the use of a program that supports Secure Shell (SSH), which will give you access to a variety of tools, including the ability to access your MySQL database account.
