Wolfram Mathematica Registration/Download Instructions
Purdue University has an agreement with Wolfram Inc. for the use of their Mathematica software application. This agreement is centrally funded; yet a vital portion of the agreement is financed through recharge of the end-users and/or their respective departments. The agreement allows for installation on university owned computers as well as staff and faculty owned computers.
The Mathematica product installation files and license key codes for version 8 or later are distributed via a Wolfram User Web-Portal and are not available on CD or DVD from the ITaP Distribution desk. Please note, the Wolfram User Web-Portal is provided by Wolfram Inc. and is not a service of Purdue University.
As a means of verification of eligibility and compliance, the Wolfram User Portal does require the Software Licensing Administrator of Purdue to approve or reject each request for download and installation. If you or your department has not provided a university billing account to the ITaP Software Licensing group (at ITaP-Licensing@purdue.edu) prior to making a request for download or an activation, your request will be denied.
Steps to acquiring Mathematica Installation Files
After you have provided the university billing information to the ITaP Licensing group, please go to the Wolfram User Portal.
Create a Wolfram Account
Click Create an account. Do not choose Continue without signing in.
Please complete the registration and security verification fields and then click Create Wolfram ID.
You should receive the following message. Click OK.
You should be then directed to a Mathematica Activation Key Request Form.
Request a license for your Purdue owned computer.
Please complete the form.
For item 2. Select the configuration, select the 'Single Machine' bullet. Do not select the 'Network' option.
Then click Submit.
Write down and store your Activation Key and Version information in a safe place.
Click on Product Summary Page.
Register Your Installation
You will then be directed to the following page to register your product. Click Register Your Product.
Please complete the following form (enter your work address), as well as additional information checkbox. Click Finish.
You should see the following message. Click OK.
Note: You may be presented with the following page regardless if you have Validated your account. This page is confusing since “registering” and “validating” your account are two different activities. If you followed the previous steps you have indeed registered your product, but you may not have validated your account at this point. There is no need to click Add Product, or continue further with this page unless you have validated your account. If you proceed without validating your account you will end up in an infinite loop of trying to re-register your product.
If you do continue further without Validating your account by clicking Add Product you will be erroneously directed to a page to enter the activation key you were previously provided.
After entering the activation key, you will get the following error message. This means you have yet to Validate your account via the email sent from Wolfram.
In your attempt to Validate your account, please be aware that you may receive multiple emails from Wolfram which should include a request to Validate Your Wolfram ID.
Validate your Wolfram Account
In the Validation email you received from WOlfram, please click the link provided within that email. You will be directed to the following page to confirm your validation.
Accessing your Wolfram Account
Click Sign In. You will be redirected to the Wolfram Sign in page. Please log in and review your account.
While logged in, you will now have access to the Mathematica installation files via a download. Choose the My Products and Services tab to view details.
Click on the Mathematica for Sites link listed under Products. You will then receive a further breakdown of the licenses available to you.
You should Download the Mathematica installation file from this Web page (located at the bottom).
If you are not wanting a complimentary (free of charge) Home-Use license, then you have completed the registration and download steps. PLEASE STOP HERE.
If you’ve had difficulty with this process, please send an email to ITaP@purdue.edu and please provide as much actionable detail as possible.
Acquire a Home-Use license for your privately owned machine
If you are wanting a complimentary home-use installation on your personally owned computer please go to the following webpage www.wolfram.com/siteinfo/homeuse/
Note: In order to qualify for this installation under the agreement between Purdue and Wolfram, your primary role at Purdue must be a faculty or staff member. All other requesters will be rejected.
Select the following bullets:
- Download – Send it to me at the email address I specify
- Operating System
And we recommend that you select ‘No’ for Wolfram Workbench unless you hava specific needs for this tool. Read the agreement
Enter in your personal information for the Home-Use registration and click Submit.
You will receive the following message. The Purdue Software Licensing Administrator will review your request and approve or deny as appropriate.
Register for the Premier Home-Use license
In the Validation email you previously received, please click the link provided and you will be directed to the account validation page.
Click Sign In and you will be redirected to the Wolfram Sign in page. Please log in and review your account and download Mathematica installation files.
Choose the My Products and Services tab to view details.
Click on the Mathematica for Sites link listed under Products. You will then receive a further breakdown of the licenses you hold. You may Download the Mathematica installation file from this Web page (located at the bottom) if necessary.
If you registered and were approved for a Home-Use license, please click the Premier Service link listed just below My Products and Services tab. Please allow two business days for your request to be listed as Active under the Premier Service Home-Use license arrangement. Your license key should be immediately valid for a sufficient period of time while your request is being processed.
If you had difficulty with this process, please send an email to ITaP@purdue.edu and please provide as much actionable detail as possible.
